What the rankings reveal
Top 3 are non-negotiable
Shop Pay + PayPal Express + Klaviyo are essentially required for serious Plus operations. If you're missing any, that's the first audit item.
The BNPL race is tight
Klarna 19 percent, Afterpay 14 percent, Affirm 1.9 percent. Most brands run one, not both. The market leader differs by geography. See cross-border tech stack.
Attribution is fragmented
Triple Whale leads at 11.4% but ~85% of Plus brands don't run dedicated attribution tooling. The market is wide open for consolidation.
Reviews are split
Yotpo (9.3%) + Okendo (6.1%) + Junip (1.3%) combined = ~17% of Plus stores. Most Plus brands either skip dedicated reviews or use Shopify's native reviews layer.
Mobile app + headless are smaller than reputation suggests
Tapcart 1.7%. Hydrogen 9%. Both get more press than their adoption suggests. Hydrogen specifically is growing fast.
How to use this as a benchmark
- Pull your current app list with monthly cost
- Map each to its position on this ranking
- Apps in the top 10 you're NOT running: explicit audit on whether you should be
- Apps you're running below the top 30: explicit justification of value
- Apps not on this list at all: strongest scrutiny (you're either ahead of the curve or wasting spend)
The consensus stack at $10M+ ARR
- Shop Pay + PayPal Express (checkout)
- Klaviyo (email/SMS)
- Klarna or Afterpay (BNPL by geo fit)
- Gorgias (support)
- Yotpo or Okendo (reviews)
- Triple Whale or DIY MER (attribution)
- + category-specific layer (subscription, returns, mobile, headless)
That's roughly 7 to 10 core apps. Real $10M+ DTC brands often run 25 to 50 apps, of which 60 to 70 percent are duplicative or unused.
Methodology
Pulled May 2026 from Storeleads. Adoption = Plus stores running each platform as detected. Denominator = 74,777 total Plus stores. Detection requires direct platform script or app presence; brands using server-side-only configurations or alternative detection methods may be under-counted.
